The potential of biomass energy development on the Oregon Coast is the topic for the Southwest Oregon Chapter of the Professional Engineers of Oregon meeting next week.
Gary Haga, owner of D & H Logging of Coos Bay will give the presentation on Wednesday at the Red Lion Hotel’s Coquille meeting room. Social time begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner and the scheduled presenter. A no-host dinner is available from the menu, but seating is limited.
In recent years, along with the decline of the timber industry, Haga and other loggers and forest managers have begun to look at wood waste, or biomass, for energy generation potential, a press release said. Biomass is typically produced by chipping non-merchantable timber, drying, and packaging it into pellets. Haga will discuss his project’s status in the planning and design of converting biomass into energy. He also wants to present a challenge to engineers to help develop an efficient drying system for the fuels.
